A valuable live recording from 1963 in NY by the NY Latin music heavyweight "Tito Rodriguez" at the legendary jazz club "Birdland." The guest jazz musicians are incredibly luxurious. He invited "Bernie Leighton" on piano, "Al Cohn" and "Zoot Sims" on tenor sax, "Bob Brookmeyer" on trombone, and "Clark Terry" on trumpet to his band, and they perform jazz standards with fiery, sharp Latin arrangements.
"Mack The Knife," "Summertime," "Take The A Train," "Perdido," "You're Driving Me Crazy," and "How High The Moon" are performed in rapid succession, with a furious live performance of arranged masterpieces. The raw atmosphere of the club adds to the intense groove, and the bouncy rhythm is a perfect finish. The slightly rough recording, unique to live performances, is also an excellent essence. This is an incredibly cool album.
This is an 88-year-old release from Spain, Latin Jazz & Dance Records, (PLP-102), a high-quality remastered Spanish pressing. This label specializes in Latin music and is known for its clear sound quality, overwhelming sound pressure, three-dimensionality and depth, and a well-balanced sound image. This one is definitely recommended on vinyl!
