This artwork depicts the Thunder God beating his drums on his back amidst swirling dark clouds. Hokusai boldly expresses the furiously swirling black clouds with scattered black splashes and the lightning that streaks across the sky in an instant with two red rays of light. This work is a hand-painted piece created by Hokusai in his later years, as he sought to depict all things in the universe. From the signature, it is known that he painted this work at the age of 88, but there is no sense of decline; rather, it strongly conveys Hokusai's inexhaustible energy.

In this "Thunder God" artwork, sumi ink was used for the black parts representing the dark clouds. Therefore, this Aloha shirt also follows Hokusai's work and uses "sumi" pigment during the printing process.
