During the preparations for the "Takamura Nakahira: Returning to Roots - Yokohama" exhibition held at the Yokohama Museum of Art in 2003, a large number of unpublished black and white prints were discovered. Many of the photographs from this collection, which were partially unveiled during the exhibition, were taken around Nakahira’s home in the Yokohama area, with the shooting period believed to be from 1978 to the late 1980s. At that time, Nakahira purportedly walked and rode his bicycle around the neighborhood every day at sunrise to shoot photographs and print them himself. This book selectively compiles the vast number of prints, focusing solely on those that feature “photographs with cars” or “photographs that also include cars,” binding them into an extensive volume. It is a photography collection that attempts to interpret Takamura Nakahira, arguably one of the most unique photographers/critics in the world, through his photographs rather than words.
