This is a wonderful picture book, illustrated by my favorite artist, Kveta Pacovská, featuring illustrations from Grimm's Fairy Tales.
As I flip through the pages, I find myself pondering, "Where does this pleasant, strange world come from?" I start to explore my own past as well.
I wonder, "Did I think the same thing when I first saw a bitter melon?" or "Is it because I didn't have money and only collected cheap, broken figurines?" Although potential factors come to mind, a definitive original experience doesn't surface.
Even though it doesn't resonate with my own memories, I might really love this person's art.
Perhaps I admire it because it's something I don't have within myself, or maybe I'm always drawn to the chaotic expressions emanating from these cute forms.
It's even better because it's a picture book.
It's an important art book for me.
