Haunted/ Spirited Doll Very Active Positive Teenager Spirit May Cloth Rag Doll

May is the positive spirit of a 16 year old who lived in a shack in Arkansas in the 1930s- 1940s. Her parents worked at a textile factory as much as they could to provide for her and her many siblings, but they lived poorly. They didn’t have many toys at all, so they played hide and seek and other imaginative games. May had a shy, sensitive, and quiet personality. In her spare time, she played the piano, sometimes composing her own piano songs. Her favorite composer was Chopin. Her favorite song is “Strange Fruit” by Billie Holiday. She loved the color blue and to sit by the Arkansas River. This doll felt familiar to her, which is why she attached to it- specifically the straw hat, as there were fields of straw in Arkansas. In school, May struggled to fit in and was bullied for her differences. She was African American and attended a colored school but was picked on for speaking proper/ clearly with good grammar.
