5 - c1890 Prints from Atala Engravings by Gustave Doré

Atala, ou Les Amours de deux sauvages dans le désert (Atala, or The Loves of two Indian savages in the desert) is an early novella by French author François-René de Chateaubriand, first published in 1801. The story is preserved by an oral tradition among the Seminoles.

The 5 prints are:

The Burial of Atala
Rest in the Forest
The Deep Mid-Forest
The Toilet in the Desert
Scenery on the Mississippi

The vintage prints in this listing were removed from a circa 1890 copy of Cassells Doré Gallery. This volume had 250 prints of engravings selected from The Doré Bible, Milton, Dantes Inferno, Purgatorio & Paridiso, Atala, LaFontaine, Fairy Realm, Don Quixote, Baron Munchausen, Croquemitaine and more.

Prints are overall 9¾ x 12¾ with image sizes varying. All have a generous margin. Margins may have some age discoloration, bent corners, minor damage. Any significant damage is noted.
